In Novemeber Thread was proud to invite Sussane Zippel to come to our office to share her thoughts and observations about Chinese typography. Sussane, from Germany, works for a design agency that specializes in branding Western companies in Asia.
Designers usually have problems when using Chinese typography, especially in the web design. Most of time the Chinese characters viewers see on the website are not the ones designers would originally use, resulting from the lack of Chinese fonts on the viewers’ side. Restricted by this, designers usually use some popular but not so beautiful Chinese fonts to make sure everyone is on the same page. Sussan mentioned some latest developments of how to solve this problem and other findings in how Chinese people think of and use Chinese typography.
Sussane is also the suthor of a book on Chinese typographic design.
